We’ve seen them all over social media, in our friend’s makeup bags, and in every possible beauty store you can think of! The Beauty Blender is a popular little “egg like” sponge that’s used to apply makeup with ease and precision. Because of its huge success, it seems like you just can do makeup without it anymore, but do you really know how to use it? Even though it’s just a little sponge, it makes a HUGE difference in how your makeup looks, so here’s all you need to know on how to use it properly!

First, keep it wet. This is the initial step to do when getting ready to use the beauty blender. Hold the sponge under the faucet and squeeze to allow water to seep into the sponge. After the sponge is nice and saturated, squeeze out excess water and blot in a towel to get it perfectly damp. By doing this, you’ll notice that it expands the size of the sponge, prepping it for use. The water absorbs into it, allowing the product to sit on top of the sponge rather than being soaked into it, delivering a seamless makeup application.

Second, keep it functional. The beauty about the beauty blender is that you can use it for a number of products like primer, serums, moisturizer, foundation, concealer, loose & pressed powder, liquid bronzer, cream blush, ect. There are so many options and you can get pretty creative on new techniques!  A tool that provides multi-versatile application while ensuring quality results is {to me} what makes this product a total must have.

Third, keep it bouncing. The key to a flawless application using the blender is to utilize all areas of the sponge while maintaining a fluid “bouncing” motion. In the makeup world we call this stippling. The sponge is shaped similar to an egg, and because of this there are 2 main areas of use: the point, and the bottom. The pointed part of the beauty blender is smaller and precise, allowing it to fit into areas such as the under the eyes, and corners of the nose, while the larger area on the bottom is great to use on wider areas such as the cheeks, chin, and forehead. No matter which end of the blender you’re using, make sure to keep it bouncing as you apply your makeup for a non-streaky, skin like, perfectly blended application.

Lastly, keep it clean! The blender is made of a latex-free foam which can be cleansed over and over again, allowing you to get the most bang for your buck. Beauty Blender (the company) does make a cleanser to use, but that isn’t your only option. I love using warm water with castile soap because it eliminates all of the makeup that the sponge is holding, while leaving it smelling AMAZING! Another alternative is using dish soap to get your sponge squeaky clean. If you are looking to completely sanitize your BB, place it in a dish of water and microwave for 30 seconds. After you let it dry on its own, it should be ready for you to reuse!
